fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hello everyone, and welcome.<\/strong><br>Today marks the beginning of our course on &#8220;Leadership.&#8221;<br>In this first session, I will provide an overview of the course and introduce the essential concepts of leadership that you will be learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, I want to emphasize one important idea:<br><strong>Leadership is not something reserved for a special few.<\/strong><br>It is not an extraordinary talent, but rather a skill that anyone can develop and express little by little in daily life.<br>This belief forms the foundation of how this course is structured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, using page 2 of your textbook as a guide, we will explore the skills that are valued in today\u2019s professional world.<br>No matter what industry or role you are in, leadership is a crucial skill.<br>Here, leadership should not be thought of simply as the ability to &#8220;lead people,&#8221; but rather as the ability to &#8220;positively influence those around you.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In particular, this course will focus on six key aspects of leadership:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Demonstrating leadership through proactive engagement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Presenting a clear vision<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clarifying the path to achieving that vision<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gaining empathy and sharing goals with others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Showing passion and perseverance toward realization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practicing leadership that anyone can exhibit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Each of these points will be discussed in detail starting from Session 8 onward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also today, as part of our course introduction, we will do a short individual exercise.<br>This activity is designed to help you start thinking about what &#8220;leadership&#8221; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In today\u2019s class, we will focus on the definition and concept of leadership.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s begin by looking at some general definitions of the term.<br>According to <em>Kojien<\/em>, a well-known Japanese dictionary, leadership is defined as \u201cthe qualities, abilities, competence, and command of a leader.\u201d<br>This sounds a bit formal and rigid, doesn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, the <em>GLOBIS MBA Management Textbook<\/em>, a well-known business reference, defines leadership as <em>\u201cthe ability to influence others while involving them in the pursuit of a shared vision.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, how do we define leadership in this course?<br>Here, we define leadership as <strong>\u201cpositive influence.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More specifically, it means taking initiative to guide individuals, teams, or organizations by presenting a clear vision, clarifying the path toward that vision, and encouraging others to move forward together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s especially important to understand is that leadership does <strong>not<\/strong> require a special title or position.<br>In reality, leadership appears in everyday actions \u2014 in our <em>words<\/em>, <em>behaviors<\/em>, and <em>attitudes<\/em>.<br>It\u2019s a power that anyone can develop and demonstrate, little by little, with awareness and intention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After this explanation, we\u2019ll do a short exercise to help you feel how close and personal leadership can actually be.<br>You\u2019ll work with a checklist of 10 everyday actions \u2014 based on situations like student life, group work, or introducing yourself to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Greeting others proactively<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offering support to someone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Looking at the bigger picture and taking initiative<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this activity, I hope you\u2019ll come to realize that leadership is not something distant or exclusive \u2014<br>but rather a <strong>familiar skill that anyone can practice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(2) Exercise: Thinking About Self-Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/533799153?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In today\u2019s class, we will discuss \u201cpatterns and structure of self-introductions.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m sure most of you have had opportunities to introduce yourselves before.<br>But in fact, there are several patterns of self-introduction, and choosing the right one depending on the situation and purpose is very important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, the way you introduce yourself during a job interview, at the beginning of a class, or when meeting someone for the first time \u2014 each requires different expressions and selected information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, I\u2019d like to use my own self-introduction as an example.<br>Please open your textbook to page 7.<br>We\u2019ll look at how my introduction is structured and organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A clear self-introduction can be built around four key elements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Affiliation and Role<\/strong> \u2013 Where you belong and what you do<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Work Description<\/strong> \u2013 What your main tasks or responsibilities are<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Interests and Hobbies<\/strong> \u2013 What shows your personality and values<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Request for Support<\/strong> \u2013 What you\u2019d like others to do to help you be yourself and show your leadership<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This fourth point \u2014 <em>\u201cRequest for Support\u201d<\/em> \u2014 is especially important, as it directly connects to the leadership skills we will explore in this course.<br>Clearly expressing what kind of support or interaction you would appreciate from others is a great first step toward building better relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, I\u2019d like you to try writing your own self-introduction using this structure.<br>Feel free to include hobbies or personal interests \u2014 they don\u2019t need to be related to the course.<br>In fact, it\u2019s better if your introduction reflects your unique personality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll have 10 minutes for this activity.<br>Afterward, I\u2019ll ask a few of you to share your introductions with the class, so please take some time to prepare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/532581347?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay;
